Co-Founder, Managing Director, Special Projects Captain
Federico Guerrero is a lifelong sailor, professional mariner, and expedition logistics expert whose life has always been tied to the sea. Born and raised just four blocks from the ocean, he began sailing at the age of ten and has spent his entire life exploring and working on the water.
A graduate of the Merchant Marine School and holder of a Master Unlimited License, Federico’s maritime career has taken him across the world — from small tourist boats in the Balearic Islands and fishing vessels in the South Atlantic to tanker and seismic ships operating globally.
During one of his earliest expeditions to Isla de los Estados, a newly discovered species was named in his honor — Hanseniella guerreroi — recognizing his contribution to field exploration. A proud member of The Explorers Club, Federico has continued to support scientific, filming, and adventure projects in some of the most remote corners of the planet.
In 2014, he left his life as a career mariner to found a new expedition company, Quixote Expeditions, which later evolved into 60 South. Today, he serves as Managing Director of the company, which operates three expedition vessels across the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. Under his leadership, 60 South supports a wide range of projects — from filming expeditions such as the BBC’s killer whale series, to scientific research with the University of Southampton, to restoration projects with the Antarctic Heritage Trust and the South Georgia Heritage Trust, as well as photography expeditions with renowned photographers from around the world.
Federico has crossed the Atlantic Ocean single-handedly, and later built his own sailboat, on which he sailed to Antarctica for his honeymoon — a journey that perfectly reflects his passion for adventure and exploration. He is also a film producer and continues to collaborate on projects that highlight the beauty and fragility of the polar regions.

Co-Founder, Operations Director, Special Projects Expedition Leader
Laura started sailing in Optimists as a child. She has since crewed on tall ships, sailed on geology research vessels, and lived on sailboats for nearly 10 years. She has a background in geological engineering and helped name a fault in Mongolia.
Laura has a passion for sharing her knowledge with others. She does so by leading passengers in the field, as well as doing lots of behind-the-scenes work prior to the season, so that everyone can have the best experience possible once onboard. In addition to her work with 60 South, she is also the Chair of multiple committees in IAATO and a member of the Explorers Club, and previously the Chair of the Board of the Polar Citizen Science Collective.
Booking, Crewing and Ground Operations Manager
María Laura is a freediving instructor (AIDA) and diving guide (PADI) with over 15 years of global travel and expedition experience. Her background includes extensive work in dive travel operations, guest management, and expedition logistics, giving her a strong understanding of both the operational and human sides of remote travel.
She is a specialized underwater cinematographer working in cold and polar waters, with an artistic foundation from the National University of Fine Arts. Her work combines exploration, visual storytelling, and conservation, with active involvement in environmental and artistic projects.
She has traveled and operated across Oceania, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, participating in expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctica, as well as remote sailing journeys through the Mitre Peninsula and the Fuegian channels.
She is currently Booking, Crewing & Ground Operations Manager at 60 South, overseeing expedition logistics, guest coordination, and travel operations, while also supporting crew administration.
Captain
Dion has been professionally skippering and crewing on various charter vessels in the Southern Ocean since 2000 (another modest crew member—he was actually born on a sailboat in the Southern Ocean and has navigated these waters since he was a child).
He used to own and operate ‘Hans Hansson’ prior to 60 South. Home for Dion, when not sailing, is a remote island farm in the Falkland Islands.
Captain
Oli has been sailing since he was 10 years old, starting in small dinghies on an inland lake. At university, while studying Sports Science with outdoor activities, he competitively raced dinghies and keelboats.
Later, he raced yachts all over the world, including offshore and ocean races. In North Wales, UK, he works at the national sailing centre as an instructor for sailing, yachting, and power boating, as well as instructing in mountaineering and kayaking.
Captain
Lucas’s lifelong passion for sailing began in Rio de la Plata. He honed his skills on various boats, working as a sailing instructor, delivery crew member, and dedicated racer. At the age of nineteen, he co-skippered his first ocean passage, navigating across the North Atlantic from America to Europe.
His time at sea sparked a deep curiosity for wildlife, conservation, and ecological issues, leading him to pursue studies in Ecology and graduate as a biologist. Since then, he continues to explore the captivating landscapes of Antarctica via sailboat, where he has found the perfect blend of his passions.
Captain, First and Second Mate
Wojciech, who goes by ‘Voy,’ knows every nook and cranny of Antarctica and likes to take some time on every trip to explore another new one. Whenever there’s an opportunity, he’s the first to jump into the zodiac to take guests out exploring.
First Mate
Gonzalo grew up in Chile and graduated as a civil engineer. He holds two master’s degrees in management, business, and entrepreneurship. He quickly changed his corporate path for his passions: kayaking, sailing, and outdoor life. He is an avid whitewater kayaker and has paddled most of the known rivers in Chile.
Today, he makes expeditions in deep Patagonia with his sea kayak. He is an animal whisperer and holds an Ocean Captain license from the Chilean Navy. He was a firefighter and paramedic in Chile for more than 20 years.

Russ Evans is a Falkland Islander now based in Orkney, with nearly three decades of professional experience at sea. Since 1997, he has worked as both skipper and crew aboard a wide range of commercial vessels, and since 2003, he has led expeditions on passenger ships in some of the world’s most remote regions.
Passionate about exploration, Russ is driven by the excitement of discovering what lies beyond the next horizon. He is dedicated to creating memorable, authentic expedition experiences, combining extensive maritime expertise with a genuine enthusiasm for sharing the wonders of the polar world with every guest.

Captain Maiwenn Beadle has dedicated her career to navigating the world’s high latitudes, with more than eight years of experience in Antarctic waters. Combining technical expertise with a calm and thoughtful approach, she is skilled at finding safe routes through ever-changing sea ice. Her deep knowledge of the polar environment and steady leadership help create safe and unforgettable expeditions for guests and crew alike.
First and Second Mate
Damian loves the sea, sailing, and nature. He started sailing over 20 years ago and loves that he can turn his passion into a profession.
He enjoys getting to know new places and new people, and so far, without a doubt, Antarctica is his favorite place.
Deck Hand & First Mate
Laura started sailing when she was 16, taking part in the Tall Ships Races. From then on, she was hooked. While at university getting her maths and philosophy degree, she worked hard to get her sailing qualifications. Since she left university, she’s been working as a sailor ever since.
She’s sailed on vessels all over the world, in all different shapes and sizes, from 30-foot yachts to big square riggers. When not doing expedition sailing, she has spent a lot of her time working in the UK, skippering 70-foot sail training boats which use sailing as a tool for youth work with disadvantaged young people.
First Mate
David can always be found near the sea. He is a sailor, Merchant deck Officer, and a Naval Architect; Sometimes he is sailing a little dinghy and sometimes he is aboard a 300-meter container vessel.
First Mate
Nahuel is from Argentina and an enthusiastic Deck Officer and certified DPO, who has sailed to Antarctica, worked on offshore vessels and cruise ships. He has a passion for the sea, adventure, and teamwork and is always ready to face new challenges. He loves to help others and to bring positive energy wherever he goes. His goal is to be: Always learning, always moving forward.
Expedition Leader
After a 10-year career in geology that included two degrees, instructing at the University of Vermont, and working for the Quebec Ministry of Resources and the Canadian Geological Survey in Nova Scotia, Hugh packed his belongings and traveled north to Alaska, where he has lived since 1992. Upon arriving in Alaska, he went to work at a lodge in Denali National Park and started a career in freelance photography.
Hugh’s background in guiding and photography led him to start his own business in 1998, guiding natural history, birding, and photography tours in Alaska. Also in 1998, he made his first trip south to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falklands and has returned every year since to work as a naturalist, zodiac driver, and photography guide. His passions are the polar regions, but Hugh loves the natural world in general and works between Alaska, Antarctica, the Galapagos, and many places in between.

Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Marketa Ceska has built an international career in tourism and hospitality, living and working across several continents. Her passion for travel eventually led her to expedition ships, where she discovered some of the world’s most remote and extraordinary destinations.
With a genuine love for adventure, nature, and connecting with people, Marketa is dedicated to creating memorable experiences for every guest. Her enthusiasm, warmth, and global perspective make her a valued member of the 60 South expedition team.
Chef
He was born in the province of Buenos Aires, and at 18 years old, he decided to head south in search of the mountains and navigation.
Now he is passionately dedicated to photography and cooking. In his free time, he enjoys ice climbing, skiing, diving, and sailing. He loves to share his travels and photography with others. In 2023, he discovered Antarctica for the first time and decided that this is where he wanted to spend all his summers.
Chef
Leandro is a pretty chill and calm guy who loves adventure and the outdoors.
He lives in the mountains of Patagonia when not sailing and tries to go paragliding whenever he can. He enjoys the challenge of creating meals in a small sailboat and keeping the crew and passengers happy.
Engineer
Ernesto was born in a suburb of Buenos Aires, but once he went to the National Fishing School in Mar del Plata, on the coast, he’s never left.
He earned a degree in naval engineering and, over his career, he’s worked on many different types of vessels.
Engineer
Guillermo started in the navy as a deck officer, but then realized he had a more technical bent, and he became a naval engineer. After leaving the navy he joined the merchant marine and served both as chief engineer and first officer. He is excited for new opportunities now to explore exciting places.
Deck Hand & Second Mate
Daniel is a passionate sailor and naval architect. He started sailing at eleven and can still remember the powerful drive of the wind and water that he felt the first time he set foot on a small boat.
This passion for the ocean has taken him to the most remote and beautiful oceans of the world in search of knowledge, happiness, and adventure.
Skipper
A Master Mariner, Hydrographer, and Fisheries Engineer, he brings more than 13 years of experience commanding Antarctic expedition vessels. His career has taken him across some of the world’s most remote polar regions, where he has led oceanographic research campaigns, served as Navigation Officer aboard icebreakers, participated in glaciological flights over the Weddell Sea, and conducted hydrographic surveys in Antarctic waters. His exceptional blend of scientific expertise and seafaring experience provides guests with a unique perspective on the polar environment.
Deck Hand
Matias first started sailing before he could remember, as his family sailed down the west coast of Africa. He grew up near the ocean in Gabon and has continued to stay on the water. Recently, he has been living aboard his own sailboat in the tropics.
For Matias, traveling is an opening into nature, wildlife, and local cultures. He has lived on three continents and speaks five languages. He also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, which he likes to use practically in solving any problems that pop up onboard.
Second Mate
With experience on deck and a background in naval engineering, Coban has developed a broad understanding of life at sea. He is currently pursuing his goal of becoming a Merchant Navy Pilot, driven by a lifelong passion for the maritime world. Sailing remains one of his favourite ways to spend time on the water.
Stewardess and Citizen Science
Since studying animal welfare at Plymouth University, Becky has been involved with a variety of citizen science projects from monitoring microscopic phytoplankton to identifying and cataloguing the giants of the ocean – whales. She is an experienced crew member having spent over seven years working as a deckhand and guide on whale watching vessels around the globe including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Fun fact: She once met David Attenborough – whilst dressed as a gorilla.
Stewardess
Constanza’s mantra is: to say “yes to everything,” always trying new things and finding her place in the world, which probably explains her degree is geography! She is passionate about community work and nature and in her free time she is a volunteer of the Chilean Red Cross. She tries to bring curiosity, dedication, and heart to every challenge in front of her!

Ariane was born and raised in the Falkland Islands and, after completing her studies in 2017, returned home to work with Sulivan Shipping, supporting cruise ships and their shore excursions. She later joined the Falkland Islands Government in a development role before taking some time out to travel and see the world. More recently she’s spent time volunteering and travelling around South Africa.
Engineer Assistant
Diego is just starting his career on ships, but is one of the most proactive, enthusiastic, and optimistic crew around. He finds cooperation is the best way to learn and to make a team!
Trainee
Rhys was born and raised in the Falkland Islands. His family came here from Denmark in the 1800s as sailors, so sailing is in his blood and he loves to be on the ocean in any way he can get out on the water.
Intern
Alex is a junior majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University. She developed a passion for marine ecology and conservation after taking a gap year with NOLS in Chilean Patagonia and studying abroad in New Zealand. Outside of academics, she enjoys gardening, leading outdoor trips, and kayaking along the coast of her home state, North Carolina.
Intern
Katherine is an undergraduate student at Princeton majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She is currently working as an intern to write blog posts for the 60 South website. In her free time, she enjoys making crafts, exploring her city, and learning new skills.
Logistics & Shore Support
Based in Ushuaia, Alejo plays a key role in logistics and hospitality, ensuring every expedition runs smoothly both ashore and on board. A traveller by nature and the son and grandson of sailors, his connection to the maritime world has shaped his passion for adventure. Known for his resourcefulness and positive attitude, he enjoys solving last-minute challenges and helping create a seamless experience for both guests and crew.
Tech Support
Pavel is an IT engineer working in the telecommunication industry and a sailor originally from the landlocked Czech Republic who finally settled in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. While not hanging upside down trying to pull some old cable, he pursues a mission to turn everything that floats into a datacenter. (He also helps keep the 60 South fleet up to date with all the latest tech and the navigation systems happy)
Logistics & Shore Support
Sebastian is 60 South’s logistics coordinator in Stanley, helping with all shore support and logistics while the vessel is in port.
He is also a very skilled handyman who can fix most things, and in his free time, he loves the outdoors, fishing, and showing tourists around.
Fleet Carpenter
Born in Tucumán, Esteban Lobo now resides in Ushuaia. He studied photography in Buenos Aires and worked for many years as an interior photographer. Although he first encountered woodworking at a young age, building birdhouses and toys, it wasn’t until his return to Ushuaia that he pursued formal training and began taking the craft seriously.
In addition to his carpentry work, Esteban has contributed as a carpenter on numerous films and commercials shot in Tierra del Fuego.
In his free time, he enjoys camping, hiking, fishing, and sailing.
Deck cadet
Carlos is a naval engineer with a strong connection to the ocean and a passion for sailing. He is particularly drawn to remote environments and offshore navigation, where he can combine technical knowledge with practical experience at sea.
He is currently focused on expanding his onboard experience, embracing the demands of expedition-style operations, and continuing to develop his path as a sailor.

Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Marketa has built an international career in tourism and hospitality, living and working across several continents. Her passion for travel and exploration eventually led her to expedition ships, where she has explored some of the world’s most remote destinations. With a love for adventure, nature, and meaningful connections, she is passionate about creating memorable experiences for guests wherever her journey takes her.

Born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, Emily spent much of her career in the hospitality industry before following her passion for adventure. Nearly a decade ago, she moved aboard a sailboat and has embraced life at sea ever since. Combining her hospitality background with a love of sailing, she enjoys creating welcoming and memorable experiences for every guest on board.

Cristian is a Naval Engineer with a strong background in shipbuilding and extensive experience as a Chief Engineer in demanding maritime operations. His technical expertise, practical approach, and commitment to safety make him a valuable member of the expedition team.

With more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality and cruise industries, Juan has built a career dedicated to exceptional service and outstanding cuisine. As both a Chef and Maître d’, he takes pride in creating memorable dining experiences while ensuring guests feel welcome and well cared for throughout their journey. His passion for hospitality and life at sea makes him an integral part of every expedition.

Nicolás is a naval engineering graduate with a deep passion for sailing and hands-on craftsmanship. His journey into the maritime world began in 2017, when he joined the Yacht Club of the Universidad Austral de Chile, where he discovered not only sailing, but also the art of working with wood and fiberglass.
He is driven by the connection between engineering and the sea, and finds great satisfaction in building and restoring with his own hands, especially in seeing a project come to life in its final form.

With a degree in Naval Engineering specialising in marine machinery, Francisco combines technical expertise with a lifelong passion for sailing and navigation.
Deck Hand
Since childhood, he has been passionate about the maritime world, with a particular focus on sailing. After completing his apprenticeship with the German Waterways and Shipping Administration (Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt) in Wilhelmshaven in 2012, he built his career as a Ship Mechanic, primarily serving aboard the multi-purpose vessel Mellum in the German North Sea. His extensive sailing experience includes everything from youth expeditions to crossing the Atlantic aboard his own 32-foot catamaran, Running Deer, in 2020, as well as navigating the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, Irish Sea, the Norwegian coast north of the Arctic Circle, and the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. These experiences have shaped him into a skilled sailor, skipper, and captain, bringing a wealth of seamanship and polar expertise to every expedition.

Helen “Lenny” Laird has been crewing on both sailing and motor vessels in Alaska since 2014. After spending several years ashore working in a laboratory, she is excited to return to life at sea and continue expanding her experience aboard a variety of vessels. Alongside her passion for sailing, Lenny has a keen interest in wildlife, with a particular fascination for seabirds.

Naval Engineer specializing in naval architecture and marine engineering. Passionate about the ocean, nature, and navigation, from small sailboats to large merchant vessels. Driven by the pursuit of new experiences and the exploration of remote environments.

Nico is an industrial designer and lives in Ushuaia Argentina. He helps design the refits of the vessels.

Based in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Nicolás specializes in marketing and web development at 60 South. With more than 12 years of experience in tourism marketing and communications, he is dedicated to showcasing the company’s unique brand and connecting travellers from around the world with extraordinary Antarctic expeditions. Through his work, he helps share the spirit of exploration that defines every 60 South journey.

Self-taught and passionate about nature, Daniel was born in Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, and currently lives in Catamarca, Argentina. There, he combines his love for the natural environment with his work in digital marketing.
In his role at Dale Click, a digital marketing agency, Daniel manages 60 South’s social media and graphic design, aiming to capture the essence of each expedition and reflect 60 South’s deep connection with Antarctica and its rich ecosystem. In addition to his marketing experience, he enjoys photography and birdwatching.
Committed to environmental protection, he promotes practices that minimize impacts in his community, focusing on local biodiversity conservation.

As Marketing Coordinator at 60 South, she oversees the company’s marketing campaigns, website updates, and online presence, helping ensure its unique Antarctic expeditions reach the right audience. Having personally experienced the wonders of Antarctica with 60 South, she is passionate about sharing the transformative nature of these journeys. Through her work, she aims to inspire curiosity, adventure, and a deeper commitment to protecting the polar environment for future generations.

For more than one year, based in Ushuaia and Barcelona, Dale Click MKT has provided solutions in marketing, web development, and brand design.
They collaborate with Quixote Expeditions by providing brand positioning on the internet, defining strategies for social networks to help more people get to know them, and developing their website.
